Question by Sloan R: How do you solve for the speed of this bicycle in this question?
A boy and his bigger sister are riding a bicycle at a speed of 3.5m/s. The boy wishes to get off the back but knows that if he just stands up he will topple over. So instead he pushes himself off the back of the bicycle with just enough force that he has zero horizontal velocity when he lands on the ground. Find the speed of the bicycle just after the boy pushes himself off.

Best answer:

Answer by Technobuff
You could consider for this problem, the bike is stationary and the boy pushes himself off at a velocity of 3.5 m/sec. The resulting recoil (Newton’s 3rd.) will propel the bicycle and girl forward at a decided rate. Finally, just add 3.5 to the answer.
As you have not given masses for the bike, the girl, and the boy, the only answer here would be a formula.
I think you can do that.

Question by Kitty: What bicycle is a good buy for a beginner?
This summer I plan on riding alot and well I’ve not rode in years! I really don’t want to spend over $ 500 on a bicycle since I’m a college student and all. So what kind of bicycle would be good?
**I would be using the bicycle for exercising rather than casual riding. Does this change any responses?

Best answer:

Answer by SoccerRefToo
kitty

A hybrid bike would be good for you for both the summer and the school year. Add a rear rack, and put a large stainless steel basket on it. You will be able to throw in books, bags, even a large bag of groceries with no muss or fuss.

If your interest is mote into long distance ride outs and aggressive exercise, a drop bar ‘racer’ would be a great fit for you!

Question by Tyou: What is the difference between a bicycle helmet and a skateboarding or scooter helmet?
I have a 5 year old son. I need to get him a helmet for his bicycle, and scooter. I notice at the stores they have bicycle helmets and then they have a helmet for all other activieties. Why? Which is best?

Best answer:

Answer by zachexler
a bicycle helmet covers mainly the top part of the head while a skateboarding helmet covers a larger area of the head including the sides. I would reccomend a skateboard helmet for a five year old. Make sure he’s comfortable with the helmet(not too loose, not too tight)

Question by Will: How many bicycle crunches do I have to do a day in order to obtain abs?
I am 13 and I heard that in a SDSU study, the best exercise to get abs is the bicycle crunch, and I was wondering how many a day I would have to do? Please no negative answers.

Best answer:

Answer by lv_consultant
I graduated from SDSU and haven’t seen that study, there is no logic behind it. bicycle crunches really only stimulate the rectus abdominis isometrically. the hip flexors are performing the majority of the work, the rectus abdominis is neither being lengthened or shortened so it’s receiving minimal stimulation

technically but you don’t even need to perform any abdominal training to have a 6-pack you only need to have low body fat.

Give your answer to this question below!
Question by GayleJeff: What kind of bicycle would you purchase for around town?
I want to purchase a new bicycle for myself – for general riding – not road racing. I want a comfortable bicycle that doesn’t weight a ton. I am not interested in off road biking, just around town. I would really appreciate some suggestions on good quality units and why they work for you. Thanks for your help.

Best answer:

Answer by Bob A
Go the the local bike shop and check out the hybrid or comfort bikes. They are very lite and comfortable to ride. Stay away from Walmart and other department stores those bikes are junk.

Question by cheeriogrl732: What are those bicycle-cart vehicles that look like a paddleboat with bicycle tires called?
I remember my best friend in the 1970′s had a bicycle-like cart that we would ride. I believe it was a fiberglass body that seated 2 in the front and had a bench seat in the back – kind of like a paddleboat. It had a steering wheel of somesort. And I think it only had 3 wheels. I’d like to find one.

Best answer:

Answer by johnm
Surrey or pedicab. We had one, and had a lot of fun with it.
